Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Document 52 Date 12 September 2026 Time 19:22
The Stewards, having received a report from the Race Director, summoned (document 38) and heard from the driver and team representative, have considered the following matter and determine the following:
No / Driver 63 - George Russell Competitor Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Time 16:16 Session Qualifying Fact The driver failed to follow the Race Director's Competition Notes at Turn 5 by not staying to the right of the bollard. Infringement Breach of Article 12.2.1.i of the International Sporting Code and non-compliance with Race Director's Competition Notes (item 26.2, document 28). Decision Driver: Warning. Reason The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 63 (George Russell), team representative and video, timing, team radio and in-car video evidence. The driver of Car 63 left the track at Turn 5 to make way for an incoming car, but rejoined the track without staying to the right of the bollard in the runoff area. The driver stated during the hearing that he stayed to the left of the bollard to re-join earlier because he was worrying about impeding the car behind. However, the driver admitted that he could have gone around the bollard. The Stewards acknowledge that the driver acted in good faith, but determine that it would have been possible for him to take the prescribed route.
Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.
Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented.
