No / Driver 11 - Sergio Perez Competitor Cadillac Formula 1 Team Time 17:38

Fact Car 11 collided with Car 18 in Turn 16 Infringement Breach of Appendix L, Chapter IV, Article 2 d) of the FIA International Sporting Code. Decision No penalty is applied. Reason The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 18 (Lance Stroll), the driver of Car 11 (Sergio Perez), team representatives and reviewed video and in-car video evidence. Car 11 attempted to overtake Car 18 on the inside into Turn 16 and both cars made contact. The Stewards determine that the driver of Car 11 initiated the overtaking attempt in a legitimate way, but then locked up the front right wheel therefore was not able to rotate the car anymore. The Stewards determine the the driver of Car 11 was predominantly at fault, but also take into account the weather conditions and acknowledge the difficulties of controlling the car on the brakes in such circumstances. Therefore a 5 second time penalty is deemed appropriate and would have been applied in-race if that had been possible. As Car 11 was not classified and 5 second time penalties regularly do not convert into grid drops, no penalty is applied in this case. Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.
Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented.
