2026 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX IN MALAYSIA

02 - 04 October 2026

From The Stewards

To The Team Manager,

Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team Document 41 Date 03 October 2026 Time 19:50

The Stewards, having received a report from the Race Director, summoned (document 34) and heard from the driver and team representative, have considered the following matter and determine the following:

No / Driver 18 - Lance Stroll Competitor Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team Time 16:38 Session Qualifying Fact Car 18 exceeded the 1:59.0 time limit between the Safety Car lines. Infringement Breach of Article B1.8.5 of the FIA F1 Regulations and Article 12.2.1.i of the FIA International Sporting Code (non-compliance with the Race Director's Competition Notes, item 1, document 33). Decision Driver: Warning. Reason The Stewards heard from the Driver of Car 18 (Lance Stroll), the team representative and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, timing, telemetry and in-car video evidence. Car 18 exceeded the maximum permitted SC2–SC1 time during Qualifying at 16:38:55. The driver and team explained that the configuration of the Power Unit requires a specific driving procedure during the out-laps. At this circuit, this made it particularly demanding for the Driver to manage his out-lap while at the same time meeting the prescribed SC2–SC1 time as accurately as possible. However, it does not relieve either the Driver or the Competitor of the obligation to comply with the prescribed maximum time. The Driver and Competitor remain responsible for operating the car, including its technical configuration, in a manner which enables compliance with the applicable regulations and the Race Director's instructions. The Stewards also note that STR was able to comply with the prescribed SC2–SC1 time on at least one other out-lap during the same Qualifying session while operating under the same general operational requirements. The Stewards therefore did not consider that the Power Unit configuration made compliance impossible. Having considered the circumstances of the incident, the Stewards determine that the exceedance constitutes an infringement. Taking into account all of the above, and in particular that compliance with the prescribed time remained possible, the Stewards determine that the standard sanction of a Warning is appropriate.

The Stewards Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.

Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented.
