Session Free Practice 3 Fact Leaving the track without a justifiable reason at turn 15. Infringement Breach of Article B1.8.6 of the FIA F1 Regulations. Decision Driver: Reprimand (Driving). This is the driver's 1st reprimand of the season.
Reason The Stewards reviewed video and in-car video evidence. LIN was on a preparation lap with two cars ahead of him. By leaving the track and taking the shorter route at Turn 15, LIN was able to pass PER. This then placed him in a position to also pass BEA on the following straight. LIN therefore gained two positions as a consequence of leaving the track and had clear track ahead of him for his following lap. The Stewards determine that LIN left the track and gained an advantage. Taking into account that the incident occurred during Free Practice, the Stewards consider a Driving Reprimand appropriate. Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits. Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented.
