McLaren Formula 1 Team Document 39 Date 06 July 2025 Time 16:30

The Stewards, having received a report from the Race Director, have considered the following matter and determine the following:

No / Driver 81 - Oscar Piastri Competitor McLaren Formula 1 Team Time 15:49

Session Race

Fact Erratic braking on the straight before T15 when the Safety Car lights were extinguished. Infringement Breach of Article 55.15 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations and Article 2.10.15 of Appendix H of the International Sporting Code. Decision 10 second time penalty. 2 penalty points (total of 6 for the 12 month period). Reason The Stewards reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, telemetry, team radio and in-car video evidence. When the clerk of the course had declared that the safety car was coming in that lap and the lights were extinguished, Car 81 suddenly braked hard (59.2 psi of brake pressure) and reduced speed in the middle of the straight between T14 and T15, from 218 kph to 52 kph, resulting in Car 1 having to take evasive action to avoid a collision. This momentarily resulted in Car 1 unavoidably overtaking Car 81, a position which he gave back immediately. Article 55.15 of the FIA Sporting Regulations required Car 81 to proceed at a pace which involved no erratic braking nor any other manoeuvre which is likely to endanger other drivers from the point at which the lights on the safety car are turned off. What Car 81 did was clearly a breach of that article. In accordance with the penalty guidelines, we imposed a 10 second time penalty to Car 81. Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.

The Stewards Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented.
