## 09 - 11 October 2026

From The Stewards

**To The Team Manager,**

Audi Revolut F1 Team Document 73 Date 11 October 2026 Time 02:45

The Stewards, having received a report from the Race Director, summoned (documents 63 & 64) and heard from the drivers and team representatives, have considered the following matter and determine the following:

No / Driver 27 - Nico Hulkenberg Competitor Audi Revolut F1 Team Time 22:10 Session Qualifying Fact Car 27 impeded Car 55 in turn 5 Infringement Breach of Article B4.1.1 of the FIA F1 Regulations. Decision No penalty applied Reason The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 27 (Nico Hulkenberg), the driver of Car 55 (Carlos Sainz), team representatives and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, team radio, timing and in-car video evidence. Video showed that Car 27 was driving slowly on the racing line on the approach to turn 5. Car 55 arrived from behind on a push lap and had to abandon the lap. That Car 55 was thereby impeded was not in dispute. The issue was whether Car 55 had been 'unnecessarily' impeded. The team stated in the hearing that they believed, based on timing information to which they subscribed, sourced from the official timekeeping provider, that Car 55 had already taken the chequered flag and conveyed that information to the driver by radio. Therefore the driver of Car 27 did not expect Car 55 to still be on a push lap when it was closing in. The Stewards acknowledge the fact that the data referenced by the team led the team to reasonably believe that Car 55 had received the chequered flag. Indeed, it was evident from Car 55's radio messages that its team had formed the same belief relying on the same data. The misunderstanding was revealed to be attributable to the information initially received by the teams not being fully synchronised and only being displayed in a correct manner after a short period of time. However, that post-processing did not occur until Car 55 arrived behind Car 27 depriving the team of any reasonable opportunity to correct the information conveyed to the driver. In the Stewards' assessment, because the source of the data upon which the team relied was the official timing provider, it was not unreasonable for the team to have relied upon it, even though the team also had available to it the official timing data which conflicted.

The Stewards On the objective facts, the Stewards determined that Car 55 was unnecessarily impeded. However, there were extraordinary mitigating circumstances in this case because the incident was attributable to the team's reliance on information that was, for a brief period, inconsistent.

Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.

Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented.
