01 – 03 May 2026

From The Stewards Document 49

To All Officials, All Teams Date 02 May 2026

Time 13:35

The Stewards, having received a report from the Race Director, have considered the following matter and determine the following:

Session Reconnaissance laps – Sprint

Fact The F1 car below exceeded the 1:48.0 time limit between the Safety Car lines.

| No. | Car | Driver | Competitor | Time of Day |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | 63 | George Russell | Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team | 11:36:34 |

Infringement Alleged breach of Article B1.8.5 of the FIA F1 Regulations and Article 12.2.1.i of the FIA International Sporting Code (non-compliance with the Race Director’s Competition Notes, item 1, document 36).

Decision No further action.

Reasons The Stewards thoroughly reviewed Marshalling/Positioning data, timing data, on-board cameras, team radio, CCTV cameras and spoke to the Team Representative.

Car 63 (Russell) failed to stay below the required time limit on the formation lap as stipulated by the Race Director’s Competition Notes V3. Car 63 experienced a technical issue with overheating and a loss of power after leaving the garage. Car 63 was also behind Car 27 (Hulkenberg) who had mechanical failure and his car was spraying fluids. The overheating, loss of power and the situation with Car 27 contributed to the fact that Car 63 was forced to fall back and thereby breach the delta time required.

The Stewards therefore determine that the driver concerned did not drive “unnecessarily slowly”, and that he was above the maximum time because he took appropriate steps, and we therefore take no further action.

Note Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.

Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented.
